  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, salt, and optional spices.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk and egg until combined.
  6. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined.
  7. Spoon the dough into the prepared loaf pan in chunky layers.
